Objectives

Your springboard into the games industry.

Media informatics determines our everyday life. Whether as entertainment on computers, consoles and smartphones or as game-based learning in schools and more and more areas of business.

Have you always dreamed of developing your own games? Or do you see yourself in software development or app development? The Media Informatics and Interactive Entertainment program at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences is the right choice for you.

In Mittweida you will learn every single step to professionally implement and control software projects - from conceptual design to planning to implementation and iteration of the applications.

The highlight: In Mittweida, theory is always combined with practice. At the end of the bachelor's program, you will develop your own interactive media project in teamwork with the other students in your class: a full-fledged game that make it to Steam.

Career prospects

Advance the communication between man and machine.

Many Mittweida graduates are realizing their dream of entering the gaming industry as game developers. They work as game engineers, technical artists or animation designers in Germany and all over the world.

But that is only one option. Every company needs modern media IT specialists. As a mobile app developer, web developer or interface and usability designer, you will use your creative skills to transform IT concepts into customer-oriented applications.

As broad as the study of media informatics and interactive entertainment is, so is the variety of possible careers in the entertainment and IT industry:

  • Game Developer, Engineer or Designer
  • Technical Artist
  • Animation Designer
  • 3D Designer/Modeller
  • Level Designer or Environmental Designer
  • Concept Artist
  • Interface and Usability Designer
  • Mobile App Developer
  • E-Learning Developer
  • Web Developer/Designer
  • Interactive Media Manager
  • Software Developer

Of course, you can continue to deepen your knowledge after completing your bachelor's degree. Our Master's program of the same name gives you deeper insights into the theory, lets you do your own research and apply the findings.

    Structure

    Business meets gamification.

With Media Informatics and Interactive Entertainment, you'll learn the most important focus areas for your future from a wide variety of fields. Computer science, design and project management are crucial core disciplines.

From the first semester on, you will be introduced to all the basics of computer science. You will learn the basic principles of object-oriented programming, operating system hierarchies, web development and interactive entertainment. Don't worry: previous knowledge is nice, but not required at all.

Already in the second semester you can specialize through electives, while you study further basics along the way. This way, you can set your own focus and concentrate more on design or coding - according to your own interests.

In the third semester, you will begin what makes studying in Mittweida so special: You will work with your fellow students on various business-related software projects for large regional companies. In doing so, you will apply your knowledge in practice, consolidate what you have learned, automatically establish contacts with potential employers, and at the same time get to know your future working environment. In addition, you learn to evaluate the developed prototypes and finally publish them mutlimedially.

From the fourth semester onwards, the "beta project" starts in parallel in the modules of Applied Game Design and Development. Over the course of two semesters, you and your entire class will create a video game that will be published on the games market. Through the software project, the publication and the work on the beta game, you will have built up a large and qualitative portfolio and a broad knowledge base by the end of the fifth semester, which will give you a head start when you enter professional life after you have successfully completed your internship in a company and your bachelor thesis in the sixth semester.
